We’ve used both crockpot and slow cooker throughout this article to mean the same thing. So wether you ave a slow cooker or crockpot, the method of cooking is the same.
What foods should nursing moms eat?
There are a range of lactogenic foods, also called galactagogues, which can support your body to increase breast milk production. Mostly, the best thing to do to support your breast milk is to eat a wide range of wholefoods, like leafy greens, whole grains, and lean meats.
In this article, I’m going to give you some great ideas for what to cook for breastfeeding moms, based on foods that are lactogenic and will help with your milk supply. These recipes are all quick and easy, and use a slow cooker or crockpot to make.
Is using a crockpot healthy?
Yes! Slow cookers are actually a very healthy way to cook. The method of using low heat to cook food over a long period of time means that the nutrients are retained and not lost through heat.
However, there can be some concern about lead leeching from poor quality slow cookers. So make sure that if you are buying one, you choose a reputable brand and opt for glass, steel or cast iron pot.
Why is a slow cooker helpful for breastfeeding moms?
Slow cookers are helpful because they do all of the work for you, while maintaining the nutrients. Most of the recipes featured here require you to simply put the ingredients in the slow cooker, set it to the right temperature, put the lid on and walk away.
